Beloit is located along the Rock River in southern Wisconsin, immediately north of the Wisconsin–Illinois state line. Downtown is easily accessible from I-39/90 and is approximately two hours from Chicago, one hour from Madison, 75 minutes from Milwaukee and 30 minutes from Rockford. Once you arrive, Downtown Beloit is compact and highly walkable, with hotels, restaurants, independent shops, entertainment, public art, riverfront paths, Beloit College and ABC Supply Stadium concentrated within a relatively small area.
Absolutely. Beloit is particularly well suited to a two- or three-day getaway because so much is concentrated in and around downtown. A weekend can combine boutique accommodations, standout dining, independent shopping, the Beloit Farmers’ Market, a Beloit Sky Carp game, riverfront recreation and live entertainment without spending much of the trip in the car.
Yes. Hotel Goodwin and Ironworks Hotel offer pet-friendly accommodations, and several local businesses provide dog-friendly outdoor spaces. Beloit also has a fenced, approximately 2.5-acre off-leash dog park. Check the City of Beloit parks information for current details. Pet policies, fees and patio access can change, so confirm directly with individual businesses before arriving.
Beloit is a year-round destination, but each season has its own personality. Spring brings baseball and the return of outdoor programming. Summer is prime time for the Beloit Farmers’ Market, patios, riverfront recreation, live music and Sky Carp games. Fall pairs cooler weather with seasonal events, farmers markets and a trip to The Apple Hut for apples, cider donuts and other appropriately autumnal things. Winter shifts the experience toward dining, shopping, indoor entertainment and holiday events. In other words, the itinerary changes. The reasons to come don’t.
If most of your plans are centered around Downtown Beloit, not necessarily. Hotels, restaurants, shops, entertainment, the Rock River and other attractions are concentrated within a walkable downtown district. A car is helpful for exploring destinations farther outside the city center or throughout the surrounding Stateline region.
Very. Families can build a weekend around Beloit Sky Carp baseball, parks and playgrounds, riverfront recreation, swimming, movies, museums, seasonal events and family-friendly dining. Riverside Park offers recreation along the Rock River, while Henry Dorrbaker’s Pub & Play is an all-ages downtown destination with duckpin bowling, indoor mini golf, racing simulators, vintage arcade games and shareable food.
Yes, although accommodations vary by property. Downtown includes accessible parking and pedestrian infrastructure, and the Beloit Transit System operates ADA-accessible vehicles and complementary paratransit service for eligible passengers. ABC Supply Stadium and many local hotels, restaurants and attractions also offer accessibility accommodations. Travelers with specific mobility, sensory or accessibility needs should contact individual businesses before arriving to confirm current accommodations.
Parking downtown is refreshingly straightforward—and free. Visitors can use free on-street spaces and numerous public lots throughout the district. View the City of Beloit downtown parking information for current parking locations and regulations. Major public lots include: City Hall Lot — 100 State Street Transit Center Lot — 231 Shirland Avenue Mill Street Lot — 321 Broad Street Broad Street Lot — 425 Broad Street Chester Square Lot — 534 Fourth Street West Grand Lot — 217 W. Grand Avenue Ironworks Lot — 650 Third Street Ironworks North Lot — 700 Ironworks Drive Fourth Street Lot — 632 Fourth Street Heritage View Lot — 627 Pleasant Street Check posted signs for time limits and restrictions, and avoid privately owned lots unless public parking is specifically permitted.
Visit Beloit operates a downtown visitor center at 656 Pleasant Street. Travelers entering Wisconsin northbound from Illinois can also stop at the Wisconsin Welcome Center–Beloit along I-39/90 near the state line for maps, visitor guides and local information. Or start with Beloit Bound before you arrive. You’ll look remarkably well prepared.
